Enjoy!
And for our film screening of the week we have a documentary called MARLEY.
This
film MARLEY, Directed by Kevin MacDonald is the story of Bob Marley's universal
appeal, impact on music history and role as a social and political prophet is
both unique and unparalleled. The definitive life story of the musician,
revolutionary, and legend, from his early days to his rise to international
super-stardom. Made with the support of the Marley family, there is rare
footage, incredible performances and revelatory interviews with the people that
knew him best. Written by Magnolia Pictures
Growing
up in a Jamaican family Bob Marley and Reggae music was what could be heard at
family parties and events. As I grew older see the attraction to this music by
others is what brought me back bringing me back to learn more about the legend
of Bob Marley.
I
thought this documentary was done very well giving you eyewitness accounts of
many aspects of who Bob Marley was. Much like anyone who comes from humble
beginnings to rise to epic heights this is the story that was told. And as
every good thing comes to a close so does this story, which was definitely a
touching moment of the documentary. So for the film MARLEY I give it 4 stars.

PHOTO SHOOT FRESH
So over the weekend, yours truly got the invite to participate in the BRASS HYSTERIA video shoot for their song "Manhattan Transfer". The video was directed by Shane at TUNELIFT productions. The theme was 1920'ish so as you'll see I had to break out the Broner and put it to use, it was a great time. So this weeks PHOTO SHOOT FRESH is VIDEO FRESH too. Enjoy!

TOP 3 VIDEOS OF THE WEEK
We are glad to see you back up in the mix for our TOP 3 VIDEOS OF THE WEEK. This week we are a bit Hip Hop heavy, but its all a matter of degree, but leave a comment agree or disagree with our selections and join this site and never miss a post. Have a great weekend and Enjoy!
This weeks Film selection is JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT: RADIANT CHILD
Director Tamra Davis pays homage to her friend in this definitive documentary but also delves into Basquiat as an iconoclast. His dense, bebop-influenced neoexpressionist work emerged while minimalist, conceptual art was the fad; as a successful black artist, he was constantly confronted by racism and misconceptions. Much can be gleaned from insider interviews and archival footage, but it is Basquiat's own words and work that powerfully convey the mystique and allure of both the artist and the man. For not knowing truly much about Jean-Michel Basquiat before
watching this film other than he died before his time and that he was close
friends with Andy Warhol was all I knew. I really learned a great deal about
this amazing artist and with the most of it coming in his own words as the film
featured video interviews with Basquiat. He was a soft-spoken man with a childlike
creativity and that really came threw with each interview segment.
Furthermore, the film/documentary did a great job in
depicting the life and times of the era in which Basquiat went from a “nobody”
to a prolific artist still relevant today. I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It
was informative, entertaining, and definitely held my attention through out I
give this film 4 stars.

TOP 3 VIDEOS OF THE WEEK
In an attempt to add more valuable content to our blog we are bringing back our movie review of the week. Our first entry is the film BELLFLOWER. Enjoy!
BELLFLOWER produced in
2011 is the story of two friends as they
venture out into the world to begin their adult lives. Literally all their free
time is spent building flame-throwers and weapons of mass destruction in hopes
that a global apocalypse will occur and clear the runway for their imaginary gang
"Mother Medusa". While waiting for the world to end, their call to
excitement comes unexpectedly when one of them meets a charismatic young woman
and falls hard in love. Quickly integrated into a new group of friends, they
set off on a journey of betrayal, love, hate, infidelity and extreme violence
more devastating and fiery than any of their apocalyptic fantasies. Often
life's simplest and most obvious truths are the hardest to see, but once you've
burned everything to the ground it may be the only thing left standing. Written by Coatwolf
Productions
BELLFLOWER
was written and directed by Evan Glodell
My personal
take on the film was that it was very entertaining and definitely unfolded an
unexpected coming of age, boy meets girl type of love story. It started out a
bit slow dreading the typical love story setup BELLFLOWER blossomed into
something fierce, violent, and a little demented. I also feel the visual style
of the film was a plus, as it was shot in this gritty, saturated color giving
it a feel all its own. I truthfully enjoyed this film and would recommend it to
a friend. I give it 3 STARS.
Today was the 2013 Calendar Brunch @ Nash's. We had a great time thanks to everyone who came out. We'll post some photos from the event soon so stay posted.
