NETFLIX & CHILL #3

A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT

In the Iranian ghost-town Bad City, a place that reeks of death and loneliness, the townspeople are unaware they are being stalked by a lonesome vampire. Written by Ana Lily Amirpour  (Courtesy of Internet Movie database)

From the moment I saw the trailer for A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT directed & written by Ana Lily Amirpour, produced by Ana Lily Amirpour, Justin Begnaud and Sina Sayyah, and executive produced by Elijah Wood, I knew I was going to have to see it. Sooner than later I got that opportunity to watch it through Netflix. Whether it was the stark black and white visuals or at the time, my limited grasp of the films storyline I was already drawn in. Upon viewing the film I was taken in even further with magnificent music and sprawling landscapes that inspire me to keep my dreams of making a feature length film someday. This was a super sexy yet subtle love story shot in black and white, which I thought was a brilliant move. The story now clearer in my head was weird in a good way and I definitely look forward to seeing more films from this director. It was like the moment I watched Pulp Fiction or Magnolia for the first time. So for A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT I give it 4 stars, which certifies it as NETFLIX and CHILL worthy.

NETFLIX & CHILL #2

This is the true story of Oscar, a 22-year-old Bay Area resident who wakes up on the morning of December 31, 2008 and feels something in the air. Not sure what it is, he takes it as a sign to get a head start on his resolutions: being a better son to his mother, whose birthday falls on New Year's Eve, being a better partner to his girlfriend, who he hasn't been completely honest with as of late, and being a better father to T, their beautiful 4 year old daughter. He starts out well, but as the day goes on, he realizes that change is not going to come easy. He crosses paths with friends, family, and strangers, each exchange showing us that there is much more to Oscar than meets the eye. But it would be his final encounter of the day, with police officers at the Fruitvale BART station that would shake the Bay Area to its very core, and cause the entire nation to be witnesses to the story of Oscar Grant. Written by The Weinstein Company (courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

Understanding this to be a film Written and Directed by Ryan Coogler, Produced by Nina Yang Bongiovi & Forest Whitaker is the recounting of actual events. I appreciate the fact the direction of the film took in presenting the outcome and rewinding back to how things escalated as they did. I think the main character played by Micheal B. Jordan had a superb performance as Oscar Grant and I look forward to seeing him in future films. No matter how you feel about situations like this that have occurred in our society, as was depicted in the film, I hope we can all agree if this was to happen to someone we knew we’d be outraged and be calling for answers as well. So for FRUITVALE STATION I give it 3 stars as it sparks a conversation that needs to be discussed on some level. This also certifies FRUITVALE STATION as a solid Netflix and Chill kind of film   ...GO!!!

NETFLIX & CHILL #1

While hunting in the forest, Lord Asano of Ako and his samurai find a young half-breed and take him with them to live in the castle. Several years later, Lord Asano holds a tournament to welcome the Shogun to Ako. The night after the tournament, Lord Asano is bewitched into hurting Lord Kira of Nagato, and is punished into committing seppuku by the Shogun. Realizing that it was a Lord Kira's evil plot, the samurais and the half-breed sets out for revenge against the Shogun's order. Written by Immanuel A.  (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)
47 Ronin was directed by Carl Rinsch, written by Chris Morgan & Hossein Amini, Produced by Pamela Abdy, Eric Mcleod, and Scot Stuber. I enjoyed the authentic look mixed with the fantasy or mystical folklore, as it pertained to the dress, setting and worldly elements of that time. The story based on actual events, for me having seen similar storylines like this lost its tension and danger at a certain point and I could predict the outcome early on.

The fighting scenes could have been much more exciting, but understanding it was a pg13 film I knew the regulations. I did like the fact that they explained and deciphered, in good detail, what a samurai’s life purpose was about as I have always seen them to be very fascinating.

In the end to me 47 Ronin was a beautifully depicted film with elaborate set pieces, dress, and locations, which was the most interesting aspect. The storyline was simple and left me wanting more character development and story. With that I gave 47 Ronin 3 stars approving it as entertaining enough to be anyones choice for a Netflix and Chill kind of night.

D. Michels Project update

And we are back... the hiatus is over, time to get back 100 its been refreshing   ...GO!!!

We have been working in the studio on a branding project for a local business and a good friend Darren Michels. He is a local Marketing Developer whom I’ve worked with on a previous projects. On this occasion, Darren wanted to represent himself with a new branding package, a new energy, and an updated identity starting back in March. Over the time with a good deal of in person meetings, the pursuit leads me to get to know Darren much better, he is a real solid individual. As the development continued I could see Darren also had a real precise way about him that I appreciated, as I love to work with those with a bold vision committed to excellence. What follows is the re branded looks for Darren Michels, Marketing Developer. He has let me know he has received numerous remarks on the updated look. Enjoy!
