MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #59

Alton Meyer is a boy unlike any other in the world with bizarrely powerful abilities and strange weaknesses. In the middle of the night, his father, Roy, spirits him away from the isolated cult that practically worships him and is determined to regain him at all costs. At the same time, Alton's abilities have been noticed by the US government as well and they are equally insistent on getting to the bottom of this mystery with Paul Sevier of the National Security Agency leading the Federal pursuit with his own questions. These rival hunts force father and son into a desperate run towards a looming date with destiny that could change everything. Written by Kenneth Chisholm (kchishol@rogers.com)

With this film I had a friend recommend it to me before seeing the trailer. I have been a fan of Michael Shannon since seeing him in TAKE SHELTER and BOARDWALK EMPIRE. To find another film featuring him in a starring role I knew I needed to see this film called MIDNIGHT SPECIAL. Upon getting the Netflix in the mail I excitedly scheduled sometime to watch it and let the story pour over me. Having been overrun with super hero films within the last few years this was a refreshing look into what encountering a being with supernatural powers might actually be like. Furthermore I thought the performance of Michael Shannon was incredible, intense, and believable. So as for MIDNIGHT SPECIAL I give it 4 stars and would definitely recommend it to a friend.

MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #58

An exploration of the life and music of Miles Davis. - Written by Brian Linse (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

Having not known much about the life of Miles Davies life I wondered how true to life this film would be. The story they portrayed of an aging artist looking to regain past glory was definitely compelling and kept me intrigued throughout. Outside of that I felt Don Cheadle’s performance was tremendous, as he played the main character of Miles Davis, which could have made or broken the films success. I would recommend this film to lovers of jazz and those who live lives of creative endeavors. So for MILES AHEAD I give it 3 ½ stars.

MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #57

In TRIPLE 9, a crew of dirty cops are blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist. The only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for "officer down". Their plan is turned upside down when the unsuspecting rookie they set up to die foils the attack, triggering a breakneck, action-packed finale filled with double-crosses, greed and revenge. Written by Open Road Films

Having been waiting on the next great police drama I had hopes TRIPLE 9 would bring it like TRAINING DAY or THE DEPARTED. Upon watching it I felt the storyline and the cast of characters were very strong, but still felt there were some things still missing to take it to the level of aforementioned films. If you ask me without giving away too much of the plot twist I think it could have been a bit more dramatic making the steps leading up a whole lot more tension filled. So as for TRIPLE 9 I give it 3 ½ stars.

MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #56

Soon after leaving her fiancé Michelle is involved in a car accident. She awakens to find herself sharing an underground bunker with Howard and Emmett. Has she been saved from an apocalyptical event as Howard & Emmett tell her or are their other motives for her being held against her will? (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

My first introduction to this film was a shortened trailer I caught on YouTube hyping its release. From that point I dreamt up my own storyline wondering if this coming film would be a continuation of the monster epic I was already a fan of. To my own surprise it was it was a tangent from the original storyline within in the same time. I felt it was an interesting take truly some tense moments. In the end I was left with an anticipation of what stories could come next, which is good. So for 10 Cloverfield I give it 4 stars.
