MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #63

A just paroled white supremacist and his ruthless girlfriend kill a cop and take an African American family hostage. Meanwhile, Sobecki, the heavily tattooed supremacist leader who oversees his criminal empire from behind bars, is not thrilled when he learns of his charge's screw-up. The patriarch of the family, an ornery ex-con himself, must rely on his wit and understanding of the racist mind to find a plan to free his family, but not before he confronts his own brand of bigotry and anger. Having a friend recommend this movie I took the extra effort to watch the trailer before committing to anything. Not much of a fan of films based on real life stories I took this one in, as I was not familiar with the story. Understanding what the subject matter would be dealing with I put myself in the position of viewer taking in the story that unfolded before my eyes. In the end I was greatly entertained as you can imagine a story like this would have many tense moments that balanced out the social experiment of sorts and made for a very well made film. So for SUPREMACY I give it 3 ½ stars and I would recommend this film to a friend.

A 21-year-old reformed gangster's devotion to his family and his future is put to the test when he is released from prison and returns to his old stomping grounds in Watts, Los Angeles. (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

It happened by mere chance that I came across the trailer for IMPERIAL DREAMS as I browsed for content on YouTube to consume. As I watched and got a sense of the film I wished there was more movies like this. Having to wait a while as the film was yet released on Netflix I found other ways to bide my time. When I was finally able to watch the film I found its point of view and story to be very refreshing almost proud to see a film take the direction it did. There were some areas I felt the film was lacking in original drama, but overall I thought the film was tight and I would definitely recommend this film to a friend. So for IMPERIAL DREAMS I give it 4 stars.

The Barber, examines two men fixated on what triggers the enormity of evil: a father whose life is destroyed in pursuit of a killer, a son caught in a deadly charade as he tries to unravel his father's obsession. Written by Anonymous (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

Having had this film recommended by a colleague and having seen the trailer the pick was already on my list of films to watch. Having the understanding the film was kind of like a who-done-it type film I had myself in the mood. Upon watching it I found the film to be a bit more than that, which was a pleasant surprise. The layers of suspense and drama added to the film made it that much more enjoyable and the sly and yet cold performance of Scott Glenn was very impressive and I would recommend this film to a friend if it came down to it. So for The BARBER I give it 3 ½ stars.

MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #60

James, a twenty-something New Yorker, struggles to take control of his self-destructive behavior in the face of momentous family challenges. (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

I don’t quite remember how I came about this film, but from what I do remember the performance of the main character James White played by Christopher Abbot was something to behold. As I watched it was terribly hard not to feel for this character and want to help ease the pain he was going through of having to deal with some tough life issues. Of course there were parts where you just wished he’d just stop being an asshole and suck it up, but as a viewer that is easy to say and to actually live it, is another. I really appreciated that about this film having lost loved ones at an early age I could relate to the feeling of helplessness and the dull nagging pain of the ultimate loss. So for JAMES WHITE I give it 4 stars as I enjoyed the emotional story, the performances of Christopher Abbot and Scott Mescudi. Further more I would also recommend this film to certain friends who could appreciate the dark story.
