It feels good to be bad...Assemble a team of the world's most
dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful
arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat
an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has
determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals
with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren't
picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably
fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it's every man
for himself? Written by Amitash Balekar(Courtesy

So I finally got around to seeing SUICIDE SQUAD. Not really
the comic book guy anymore many of these characters were unfamiliar to me. That
said I felt the film did a rather well job of introducing these character to
members like me in the audience. When it came down to the story it seemed
rather plausible in the Gotham for something like this to occur, but it was
clear Will Smith character Deadshot and
Margot Robbie’s character Harley Quinn were talking the spotlight. I felt SUICIDE SQUAD was an entertaining
and action packed film ride that really only hyped me up for the coming films.
So for SUICIDE SQUAD I give it 3.25 out of 5.

So I don’t know how many people are up on these JACK REACHER films, but I have now watched
my second one JACK REACHER: Never go back.
I’d have to say I’m still kind of impressed. These action laden films of the
guy that just can’t be beat reminds me a bit of the JOHN WICK series, but in this
case JACK REACHER is an ex Major out to help those in trouble. Being a fan of
Tom Cruise for a while, but not everything he has done film wise I think these
JACK REACHER film are a good look. The film is kind of a who done it cover up
expo with some emotional play, which I thought gave the Jack Reacher character
a bit more dimension. So for JACK REACHER I give it 3.75 stars out of 5.

The night Malcolm and his team ventured into the city of Trujillo, Peru they got to see a city on the verge of a becoming the next hot spot for travelers. Their guide Hector took them first to a fantastic restaurant that served high end Peruvian dishes, which the team was caught speechless for words to describe the food. They also happily throughout the night continued sipping on Toro Perfecto tequila.
They then took a drive through the more scenic areas of Trujillo Hector took Malcolm and his team to a popular discothèque where they enjoyed more merriment as they were infused into the vibrant club scene. The music was loud and it made everyone want to move getting on the dance floor. In some ways the scene reflected what Malcolm had known in America, yet the styles of dancing and mass collection of people gathered was unlike anything he had ever scene.
As the night continued they were lead by Hector to another well known party spot and again the music was energetic and the Peruvian people were gathered in numbers. Malcolm took notice of the Peruvian women who were all about. These were independent, sexy women that moved so well it was hard for Malcolm take his eyes off them.
The slowly night crept to a close and Hector guided the team out before the last call through the crowd to the Toro Perfecto vehicle parked in the open garage area outside of the first club. Nicole was the first to notice that a pair of men seemed to be following them, but maybe it was just a coincidence till two other men with guns jumped out ahead of the group just as they were walking up on the vehicle they came in. The two men with guns in front and the two men in back were speaking Spanish to which Hector was the only one who could fully understand relaying the message that they were demanding everyone get in the vehicle first giving up their phones and having their wrist tied with zip ties.
Everyone’s face was filled with shock and a dreadful concern. The presence of the men holding the guns made the tense situation even tenser as one by one they gave up their phones, had their wrist bound and were forced into the vehicle. One of the four men then drove the Toro Perfecto vehicle out of the open garage and followed another vehicle with the 3 other men out of town.
They drove in silence Malcolm and his team wondering what was going on and where they were taking them. At a certain point the array of city lights disappeared and all one could see out the windows was black. The younger members of Malcolm’s team were fearful for their lives as Malcolm trying to figure out what was going on helped keep them calm by continually saying “Everybody is going to be alright.”
Malcolm then questioned Hector to what was happening, to which Hector told him they were all being kidnapped for ransom by the local cartel who had for years tried to get a piece of Mr. Arguello’s tequila empire having failed on their own to find a market for their lesser known brand tequila only reaching a market in Peru and other parts of South America. Hector continued saying that they were being taken to a hideout which when there the cartel would contact Mr. Arguello and make their demands or else one by one the kidnapped members would be taken care of. Malcolm asked what the meaning of “taken care of” might mean? In the back of his head he had an idea, but just wanted to get to the gravity of the situation. Malcolm the whole time hoping Mr. Arguello would give them what they wanted as he looked at the terrified faces of his team.
Malcolm’s heart was racing, he had no idea of what to do, but he held firm and just analyzed the situation for any opening he could exploit. Soon the vehicles pulled up onto a house about 30 minutes outside of the city in the middle of what seemed like nowhere with darkness all around them. They were then lead into the house and forced into the belly of the house’s basement that was furnished with only a ratty old mattress and a small vent sized window.
From the basement you could hear the creek of footsteps from above, the front door opening and closing and if they were very still you could hear the men upstairs talking. Malcolm continued to question Hector to what could happen from here to which Hector had no idea. Malcolm needed to show some form of leadership as his team was looking to him. So again he held the brave face as two men came down into the basement he tried talking with them only getting a strong punch in the midsection and pushed to the floor.
As Malcolm lay on the cold cement floor the two men forcibly took Hector back upstairs shutting the door to the basement with a slam and clanking of a lock. The jovial day with a tour of the Toro Perfecto grounds and the venture into the city of Trujillo was now turning into a real nightmare that Malcolm had to now lead his team out of as the only person they knew and knew them and where they were was gone not knowing if he’d ever come back.

After seeing the trailer to GHOST IN A SHELL my first
thought was cool, but at the same time seeing Scarlett Johanseen as “Major’ the
lead character came with some concerns. Having seen the original anime version
of GHOST IN A SHELL and knowing how ground breaking that was to see it
“whitewashed” was kind of disappointing. Of course, the choice to do that was
to help make the film profitable by using a star to peak interest for those not
familiar with the original. All of that said I thought this live version played
well. It was entertaining, with a complex story that reflected the original
rather closely. So for GHOST IN A SHELL I give it 3.75 stars of 5.

Upon seeing the trailer for FENCES it brought me to tears,
no joke, and with that I knew I had to see it. I didn’t get the chance to see
it in the theaters, but I did buy my parents a pair of tickets so they could.
Since then hearing all the Oscar buzz around this film and hearing it was first
a stage play by August Wilson were all further reasons to see it. Upon finally
seeing I was pleased by the complexities of the characters and the lives they
lead. This is indeed a film about its characters and how their dynamic shapes
their lives. So if you are looking for great action sequences or expansive set
designs FENCES is not that. Yet if you appreciate interesting and revealing
dialogue and complex story with strong acting performances this is it. So
FENCES I give it 4 ½ out of 5 stars.

It was now 2 weeks since Malcolm had created and posted an add looking for a roommate. He didn’t know how it would work out, but almost immediately he was taking calls from perspective roommates. Some were young, some old, some male, some female, some looking for just a place to crash for a few months. No matter who it was Malcolm would find some reason as to deny each of them finding himself in the same place he started.
With the day for his surgery coming he still would attend team practices, although he didn’t play he was still highly involved with the team’s day to day and he would be till the end of the season. Yet there was a growing disconnect with his team and the sport he so love.
He scheduled a time to talk with his coach to voice these growing doubts, which his coach explained he had heard that from several players through the years when they had been injured and were out for a period of time. The coach directed him to keep his mind right telling him he may not be able to play just yet, but if he kept his mind in the game he’d become a much-advanced player once he could. He also gave him the card of a therapist that could further help him through the journey of being an injured player. Malcolm took the advice and scheduled an appointment with the therapist as soon as he could.
Back on the roommate search Malcolm then met with an interested prospect named Heath that seemed like a good fit. He was about the same age as his brother, he was employed as an art gallery curator and had a deposit and the first months rent ready as soon as needed. Malcolm showed Heath the grounds of his property as they talked on numerous subjects like family schools attended, places they’d traveled, to their future aspirations. Malcolm found him rather interesting and someone he could see being a welcome guest in his home.
Along the way Malcolm wondered if any of the prospects knew who he was and or even followed baseball, yet in the end the question would always come up to what Malcolm did for a living giving him the opportunity to share. Of all the people he interviewed no ones reaction was more than his current prospect, which endeared him to Malcolm, but Heath was a Cubs fan, which was a rival to Malcolm’s L.A. team. Upon the end of the tour Malcolm felt good about Heath and was ready to pull the trigger and choose him as his roommate. The two shook hands and sealed the deal taking his firsts months rent.
A day before Malcolm’s surgery found his L.A. team on a 5 game win streak with a very slim chance of still making the playoffs. It also was moving in day for Heath to which Malcolm gave him all the instructions needed to maintain till he would be back from the hospital stay. Heath seemed ready for the move as Malcolm was still going through all the ups and downs of dealing with his injury.
That night his L.A. team continued their streak as he lay in a hospital bed set for surgery early the next morning. He wanted to be happy yet happy for him meant being on the field. Overnight Malcolm dreamed of living life with a roommate. Come the next morning Malcolm went into surgery only seeing the text from his family wishing him well just before going under. When he awoke he was still groggy from the anesthesia barely able to keep his eyes open. He was in that state for nearly an hour fluttering between consciousnesses and dreaming. At a certain point he remembered flirting with a nurse who came to check up on him claiming she was his long lost love to which she played along telling him she’d always be with him, but for now she had to go.
Hours later Malcolm was back to his normal self, but extremely tired so he lay in bed till the doctor came and told him that the surgery had gone well and that come the next day if all things checked out he could head home. Malcolm thanked the doctor for taking care of him and then slowly drifted back to sleep.
In his incoherent state he dreamed of some bizarre things that included his family, his career, the dread of having a roommate, to some pleasant things like Candace or his new love nurse Edie. The one night Malcolm spent in the hospital was a long one, used to his own comfy bed and calm atmosphere, but he made it through a night that tested everyone’s nerves.
The next morning he got the ok to go home from his doctor. As he prepared himself to leave, nurse Edie approached Malcolm giving him her number expecting him to call. By the time Malcolm was finally released his arm in a sling his new roommate Heath was there unexpectedly to drive him home, as Malcolm was in no position to drive himself. Then as they left the hospital Malcolm began to realize he would now begin the journey of recovery.

Having been a fan of the original ALIEN film I have been fascinated
by a few other films that have told alternative storylines like ALIEN vs.
PREDATOR, and PROMETHEUS. Each of these film have touched on how the Alien was
created or its origins, but in each case rather than making things clear it
made them even more confusing. So comes along ALIEN: COVENANT. My hopes for
this film would have been that it would give more understanding of why and how
the ALIEN exists so I was excited to watch. Upon viewing the film I found that
answers were given, but not to the questions I had. That said I felt the film adequately
told the story it had to share piecing parts from the PROMETHUES film in to
give it a deeper story and also a plot twist. So for ALIEN:
COVENANT I give it 3 ½ stars out of 5.
