MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEW #225

NIGHTCRAWLER is a thriller set in the nocturnal underbelly of contemporary Los Angeles. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Lou Bloom, a driven young man desperate for work who discovers the high-speed world of L.A. crime journalism. Finding a group of freelance camera crews who film crashes, fires, murder and other mayhem, Lou muscles into the cut-throat, dangerous realm of nightcrawling - where each police siren wail equals a possible windfall and victims are converted into dollars and cents. Aided by Rene Russo as Nina, a veteran of the blood-sport that is local TV news, Lou blurs the line between observer and participant to become the star of his own story. Written by Open Road Films (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

NIGHTCRAWLER (2014) in my first viewing the film blew me away. I had a friend recommend it to me thinking I’d like it and he was right. Although it is a film and things need to be edgy the film actually has a lot of great info that applied to life or the entrepreneurial lifestyle, in general, can help one blog their journey.

Now seeing Netflix has placed this film as part of the streaming content I had to watch it once again. And the film still holds up. As much as I still remembered how the film plays out it was just as enjoyable and I was even more in awe of Jake Gyllenhaal’s performance this time around.

In the End: NIGHTCRAWLER is a film with seeds of knowledge anyone can use and apply to their lives and I think for me is why I gravitate to this film in the first place. Enjoy!

MURDER WAS THE CASE

He wrapped the telephone cord around her neck in a violent flash. She had no time to react as he was on her the moment she came through the door. He had watched her for some time from a distance gaining her routines like her morning jog before work or the quiet time she'd spend reading a book on her balcony with a glass of wine. Once, he even broke into her flat while exploring the space, finding out even more about this woman, he took a fancy to and continued to stalk.

While in her flat, he thought up how he would subdue her. His goal wasn't to kill her, no not just kill her, he wanted to make love to her, and then when the time was ideal, he'd extinguish her life force.

The day he had planned to do this was when he knew from learning her patterns was a day she'd come home after dark. He gained entry as he had done before through a window that wasn't secure, and then prepared the space for his ritual as he spread out lingerie, her lingerie on her bed. He poured two glasses of wine and prepared a bath.

On his way back to the kitchen from the bathroom, he saw her pull up into her driveway; she was early. He scrambled up the stairs only to decide to stay downstairs and overtake her at the front door. Stealthily he hides in the shadows, he waited till he saw she was alone and watched for her to enter the front door.

His adrenaline rush coursing through his body as he held tight in his hands the telephone cord he retrieved from her home. The twisted desire he had for her had grown into something he could now not control and as she walked inside what she felt was her safe space he wrapped the cord around her neck and slowly strangled her cutting off her oxygen and flow of blood till she fell limp into a pile in front of him.

He grabbed her up, took her to her bedroom, shot her up with a highly potent sleep sedative, and undressed her. With her now naked, he set her in the tub and sensually bathed her nude body. With her body clean and moisturized, he dressed her in her most delicate lingerie and laid the flaccid female body on her bed.

Standing over her, he watched her for a matter of moments in the stillness of the night. He was partly fascinated by her quiet beauty and the near completion of his devious mastermind. He then began to undress caressing her smooth olive-toned skin, as he would pass by her bed.

The final step in the ritual, he tied her securely to the bedposts before joining right along lying at her side. When she finally woke up, she was a little groggy, but she knew what had happened. Their eyes met as she turned to see him lying next to her to only blackout in terror, seeing a stranger in her bed.

MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #224

Adonis Johnson is the son of the famous boxing champion Apollo Creed, who died in a boxing match in Rocky IV (1985). Adonis wasn't born until after his father's death and wants to follow his father's footsteps in boxing. He seeks a mentor who is the former heavyweight boxing champion and former friend of Apollo Creed, the retired Rocky Balboa. Rocky eventually agrees to mentor Adonis. With Rocky's help, they hope to get a title job to face even deadlier opponents than his father. But whether he is a true fighter remains to be seen.... Written by Blake ordonez (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

CREED (2015) Is directed by Ron Coogler, written by Aron Covington & Ryan Coogler and produced by Robert Charoff, William Chartoff & Sylvester Stallone. Having grown up with the ROCKY films and how big those films seemed my reaction to the offshoot of those films comes with some concern, but I would give it a watch and see what it was all about.

Upon watching there was a little recollection had to do not remember how the previous films ended. After that, I felt CREED held its own and one of the keys to this is the casting of Micheal B. Jordan, who I felt commanded the role fairly well. I would say at least for this film understanding it is an origin story the spectacle of the character has yet to be shown, which may develop in future films.

In the End: CREED was definitely watchable, but as for one who grew up on the ROCKY films this one has some was to go to be as iconic. So for this film, I give it 3.5 of 5 stars.

ART SHARE

Back with another Able Abe Studios Art Share. This time around I share a sneak peak on a WIP project I'm working on called BARFLY more details coming soon ...GO!!!

MOMMY ISSUES

Picked up on a whim, Brenda had no idea if she'd be using it soon, yet like always, she found herself in trouble by letting her mouth run a bit too much. She had run it when talking with her boyfriend, who was just a bit too sensitive and now he wasn't talking to her. It wasn't like he was not talking to her at all; he would give her one-word answers like yes, no, correct, or even thank you. He was a complete asshole about it, but Brenda knew what she had said hit a nerve as it was a topic they'd discussed before uneasily in hopes of getting over on him in an argument.

This time they were already in an argument, and Brenda, as she knew his tipping point did antagonize him to get him even more agitated and lose his thought process. That was her reason for bringing up his fear of being intimate with her. It wasn't due to some erectile dysfunction it was all in his head having been caught by his Mom at a young age pleasing himself, and since then, the constant eyebrow beating she would put on him had caused him a complex he since had been trying to shake.

Brenda knew all of this and, in a flippant remark, infused his mother into the conversation saying his mother could get the best out of him, implying he had mother issues and rather sleep with his Mom than her. Clark recoiled at the statement, and they since had not been intimate. Brenda thought about her next step over the few weeks that lead to a month, then a month and a half, which is when she questioned her purchase. It was a Victoria Secret leopard print lingerie set she had found, and knowing Clark he loved seeing her in animal prints, he couldn't resist.

Brenda was now contemplating pulling it out now to spark a mood and put an end to their quarrel. As she tried it on she, found it did not fit her the way it did the day she bought it. Feeling 10 to 20 pounds heavier, she began to freak out, looking at herself in her wall mirror. From the front and back, she was pouring out of the set in her love handles. Also, feeling she was showing too much under boobage for her liking.

She wondered if he'd even notice till in walked Clark, home early from a job interview. They both froze, not expecting the other to be doing what they were doing and not saying anything. Till Clark spoke up, saying, "Oh, it is like that!" a bit of energetic timber in his voice questioning Brenda as she had no idea how to answer wondering if his statement was a rhetorical question.

Clark began to undo his tie keeping his eyes on Brenda as he stepped closer to her. Looking into his eyes, Brenda saw something she hadn't seen in him in weeks, Clark was looking at her with sexual desire. He began unbuttoning his shirt, and although Brenda had been feeling gross about her appearance in the lingerie set, the desire Clark was sparked by looking at her ignited her flames of passion. Clark walked up to Brenda and grabbed her, drawing her close and embraced her feeling her body against his melting away any inhibitions he may have held.

Clark then picked Brenda up, manhandling her and threw her on their bed and ravishingly made love to Brenda, exorcizing all of that pent up misplaced love and aggression that had festered in their time of not talking. Brenda never knew what it was that flipped the switch in Clark that day, be it the lingerie, the added pounds, or the combo of the two she just knew never to bring up his Mom in any future sexual situation.

MENDING THE PAST pt. 2

There wasn't much more anyone could do, and you could see everyone was in shock from the looks on their faces. The ambulance was on its way as it was quick thinking for someone to call 911. The group just stared in disbelief as one of them lay on his back, fighting for his life.

The evening up until then had its miscues, but had been going fine as this was to be Pete's 40th birthday, and after a hell of a flight from Medford, Oregon, he had made it to New York greeted by his long time friend Armen. They hadn't seen each other in several years as Pete had broken away from all the media attention as Armen began taking the business in a direction that Pete didn't want. There was no argument, Pete went his own way splitting from the company which proved more comfortable than he thought what was hard was knowing the woman he loved didn't love him, and he'd possibly never see her again. Yet after many years due to Armen coaxing, he resurfaced for his 40th.

Putting things on autopilot with his new business in Medford, Pete booked his flight. Knowing everything he had seen in the media about the company, he had broken away from sat well with him. What didn't was seeing Armen marry the woman Pete loved Kendra. The day they married, he saw it on the news refusing to attend in person as they did send him an invite. Having now the wound from that finally heal was the main reason he agreed to visit New York for his 40th, knowing that seeing her might trigger a reaction he couldn't contain.

Pete and Armen met at the airport. Their meeting delayed by a few hours due to unpredictable high winds over the city. When it finally did happen, the two greeted each other with a cold handshake to break the ice, which turned into a long time coming brotherly hug signaling a truce. It did help Pete in a way that he had developed himself chiseling his body into a fit wonder with a well-groomed beard while Armen looked to have put on more than a few pounds. The two men then made a b-line from the airport to the lavish hotel where the first leg of the birthday festivities was to occur. Armen texted Kendra; they were en route barreling through the city in a luxury vehicle. Upon getting that text, Kendra flashed back briefly in her mind of what it was like in the early days of the company and the complexities of being the love interest of one partner and in love with the other.

On the ride over the former partners caught up the best, they could not dig too deep into their current business ventures and keep it cordial and light as the awkwardness of the moment had not fully thawed. As the luxury transport pulled up into the hotel entrance, a rush of people coming in and out caught the men's eyes as abnormal. As they exited the vehicle, they could hear cries of someone calling for someone to call 911.  Inside the uproar came from the gathering of partygoers for Pete's 40th birthday party as one of the partygoers had an adverse reaction to something on the menu.

Walking inside the hotel, Armen and Pete finally got the down low as the night continued to bring elements that lead to an exaggerated birthday party for Pete. The party nearly dismantled, and partygoers were buzzing around the afflicted partygoer was the moment Kendra first laid eyes on the reinvented Pete from a distance. He stood taller than she remembered walking with a confidence that wasn't there when he ran the company she had gotten into at the ground floor and was now married. As her husband, Armen and Pete came closer to where she was near the bar, she could see the drastic difference between the two men over the years.

When Pete finally laid eyes on her, he was immediately a smile. The years didn't change his feelings toward her as he'd think. But some appearances did need to be made. So in their exchange of a warm embrace, they greeted each other amidst the backdrop of the first responders attending the ill partygoer. Now having a disbanded party, Armen, Kendra, and Pete sat at the hotel bar sipping top-shelf whiskey reflecting on numerous things, including there mutual past.

MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEW #223

After pursuing Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities that reside within, David Dunn finds himself locked in a mental hospital alongside his archenemy, Elijah Price. The trio must now contend with a psychiatrist, who is out to prove they do not actually possess superhuman abilities. Written by vsuperkuns (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

GLASS (2019) is written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan and produced by Marc Bienstock, Jason Blum & Ashwin Rajan.  Not knowing if this film will be the last in the already trilogy of films from M. Night UNBREAKABLE, SPLIT to GLASS I took in this having seen the others expecting the finale. The distinct storytelling of M. Night has always been appealing to me with his slow burn and massive twists. So expecting that from this film I began to watch.

I watched as a mild to medium, comic book guru-type viewing a film highly interested in the comic book lore realizing that my interest in this genre of films had waned. So as I continued to watch, I found myself losing interest. Maybe it was the characters, maybe the slow-burn pacing of the film I don’t know, but this film didn’t deliver for me as much as I’d hope.

In the End: GLASS, although it held to the great M. Night style and tied up many of the loose ends from the previous film, I was simply hoping for something that really pushed the genre. So for this film, I give it 3 of 5 stars.

MENDING THE PAST

The way the flights were running that day, it was nearly a positive they'd be late, and this disheartened Armen to his core. The whole point of the meeting was a surprise, and now it was most definitely going to be late. Texts from his connect at the hotel bar; it told him they had arrived and settled in ready to see Pete. Armen wanted to text back OMW, but he knew that would be a lie, so he continued without replying as if he had just not gotten the text or at least was finding something to say that would better explain this dire situation.

The situation was this Armen had planned a surprise birthday party for his close friend Pete who lived in Medford, Oregon. Armen lived in New York, and they hadn't seen each other in a few years, so the plan was Pete would come to NY and celebrate with Armen and his friends, many who had known Pete when he was working with Armen at the firm.

Their working together came to a shocking end to everyone as it was in a sense Pete's baby, but over time that changed as Armen began to take the lead and ending up on magazine covers as he became the face of the booming company.

Armen thought about the days before the split as he waited in the airport terminal, looking at the latest flights coming in. Armen didn't want the division to happen, but no matter how it cut, Pete was becoming background more and more, and it began to feel like he was just another employee.

Yet the main reason for the split, which took place behind closed doors, was the girl Pete so desperately wanted didn't want him but wanted Armen and Armen her. To the determent of their relationship and looking to make things right, the board of trustees granted Pete the ability to sell all his shares in the company. He then moved across the country, shedding the big apple city life to start his projects, but still watching the business he helped build to grow without him.

Of course, there were hard feelings between the two, but slowly things began to change in both of their futures, till a 40th birthday celebration planned for Pete, giving the two men a chance to reunite.

Knowing it would be his birthday on this trip, Pete knew there was something he'd have to share, but for now, he wanted to keep it under wraps. So upon finally getting the answer he was looking for Armen texted back to the crew at the hotel bar "ETA delayed, but the flight is back in route, be there with Pete soon."
