MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #74

A suicidal artist goes into the desert, where he finds his doppelgänger, a homicidal drifter.

I felt this film was in the vein of a David Lynchesque strangeness, it’s metaphorical dialogue and biblical references. I also think this film was taking shots at the typical Hollywood lifestyle. I didn’t really connect with the main character and was more compelled to root for the so-called villain because at least he seemed genuine and in cases more interesting. In the end I may recommend this film, but very loosely and to certain folks whom I am familiar with. So for MOJAVE I give it 3 stars.

He left the office with his mind burdened after another tough day of work. Tough in the atypical sense of high stress and meeting deadlines and being productive. That had been something he'd drawn accoustomed to and subsequently numb, even though his own numbers were on the decline.
Tough through in the sense that it was emotional strain working on him as he was already in a fragile state looking for advice from someone if not a higher power. He was fearing he'd fall back into his old patterns having already broken his vow to stop drinking picking up a bottle on his way home last night needing to take the edge off.

His mind was a battlefield of waring thoughts of whom he was and wanted to become. On his way down a flight of stairs to leave he past a colleague whom had recently been let go escorted by security to get his remaining things. He had been performing poorly and had some disciplinary issues as well.
As they drew closer to each other he saw how the situation had taken its toll on someone he had worked side by side with for some time. It gave him some perspective on his own life in looking at his ex colleague's lack on confidence in his posture, the bags under his eyes from who knew how many sleepless nights and the pained look on his face.
They passed each other and spoke without words just a nod of acknowledgement and hopes he'd see better days. As much as he hoped this for his ex colleague he prayed it for himself feeling that he was only steps away from ending up in places he hoped he could stay away from.

MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #73

Set against the backdrop of 1977 Los Angeles, The Nice Guys opens when single father and licensed PI Holland March (Gosling) is hired to investigate the apparent suicide of famous porn star Misty Mountains. As the trail leads him to track down a girl named Amelia (Qualley), he encounters less licensed and less hands-off private eye Jackson Healey (Russell Crowe) and his brass knuckles, both hired by the young hippie. However, the situation takes a turn for the worse when Amelia vanishes and it becomes apparent that March wasn't the only party interested. As both men are forced to team up, they'll have to take on a world filled with eccentric goons, strippers dressed as mermaids and even a possible government conspiracy. I was looking forward to this film upon seeing the trailer thinking it would be a barrel of laughs seeing Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling playing buddy detectives. Upon actually seeing it I felt different. I feel in some way the comedic timing was off in a complicated who done it. I also felt its attempt to appeal to a wider audience and keeping it less gritty lost me nearly from the start. The title “THE NICE GUYS” should have been my cue, but I watched anyway. I also think there were plans for a part two, which if it does happen I don’t think I’ll take part. So for THE NICE GUYS I give it 2 ½ stars.

This was to be his favorite part of the day. A finely brewed cup of coffee, a good book and some mindful jazz playing in the background at the local coffee shop the social hub to any community.
It would'nt be long, maybe a few sips off his coffee and a few paragraphs read when all of that would change as his ex girlfriend would walk in.
At the moment she hadn't seen him stationed off in the corner of the shop. In his own opinion she looked great radiating with a happiness even he could feel.
Their three-year relationship had come to a close both realizing they wanted different things in life. Always a bit of an ordeal running into an Ex, but he couldn't take his eyes off her. He watched her order her usual an Americano, an espresso shot diluted with water to which she'd add two packets of sugar.
At that moment she spotted him, as he spotted the wedding ring on her finger. A bit of him died in that instant thinking this could be the moment they could rekindle things. He definitely could use someone that would continue to inspire him to be better.
They both smiled as she walked up to his table. Their exact split was a little complicated, but cordial. He thought of a pair of panties he held onto of hers wondering where they might be now.
They spoke briefly catching up as it had been nearly a year and some change since going their separate ways. He looked at her in awe and a hint of disgust knowing if she could have given him some time they could have worked out. She looked truly happy and as much as part of him resented that he kept smiling with her wedding ring sparkling in his eyes.
Upon wishing eachother well she walked out of the coffee shop door and was gone. Leaving him to his favorite part of the day now ruined by running into the one who got away.

MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #72

Libya, 2012. At an unofficial CIA base in Benghazi a group of ex-military contractors are providing security. In the aftermath of Gaddafi's downfall a power vacuum exists and the climate is volatile. Military weapons are freely available. The US Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, makes a visit to the area, staying in a compound near the CIA base. On the night of 11 September, 2012, the Ambassador's compound is attacked by hordes of heavily armed locals. The only forces willing and able to defend it are six CIA contractors. Written by grantss

Now that the political climate has changed and whether or not you like Trump there was a story that caught my attention, which was also a film. That film is 13 HOURS. Upon watching it I found myself better understanding why this was such a hot topic. Based on a true story this is not your typical war story and in that aspect one should be prepared. I myself felt the film and actor portrayals were rather solid and would recommend the film to a friend. So for 13 HOURS I give it 3 ½ stars.

He told himself he shouldn't try and do this life change cold turkey. He needed to ween himself into this new lifestyle.

He thought these things as the waiter walked by with flutes of bubbling champagne perfection on a tray. He sucked his teeth in frustration while standing in front of an enormous piece of wall art which had caught his fancy.

Shifting back and forth on the balls of his feet in black suede Stacy Adams he looked up at the spread of colors creating a part abstract, part nude figure image. In his being he found a calm and comfort standing there, as it was clear many of the other gallery guest had mixed opinions on the piece. Yet he stood there in awe of the piece feeling the relief he had felt the day he escaped to the church alter to pray.

He processed the use of color, the curves of the figure, even the strokes of the artists brush, as he over heard a woman make a comment regarding the work he stood alone in front of. She ran off at the mouth spewing words of disgust for the piece coming off as someone with a holier than thou complex to his ears.

He felt his body tense as if the comments were directed at him. He glared over at the woman seeing her smug face and arrogant attitude she had no idea what this possibly meant to the artist or even the amount of work involved.

He sensed himself growing frustrated remembering his vow to change when a flash of seeing himself break a canvas over the woman's head screaming bloody murder caught him. He closed his eyes trying to hold it all in.

Standing still he opened his eyes only to make a B-line to the gallery exit past the woman who had made the comment that ignited the fire within him. He gracefully grabbed a flute of champagne off a passing waiter's tray downing it and exiting the gallery into the open air of a fresh spring night.

He took a breath filling his lungs to capacity and holding it for three beats and blowing it out. He began to slowly feel relief walking up the block away from the gallery. He looked to the sky only wondering what could have happened and how grateful that it hadn't.

He stumbled through the church doors. His mind, body and spirit weary from the way he was living his life. He was burning the candle at both ends in order to get ahead.

He didn't even know the type of church he was entering, he just saw the cross on the outside of the building and walked in searching for a conversation with a higher power.

He smelt like expensive brown liquor and women's perfume waking up in the bed of another woman he barely knew, which was the moment that sparked the idea he needed to get right, or what ever that meant, ending him up here on his knees putting his hands together to pray.

He hesitated, not rightly knowing how to open his prayer so he spoke freely like he was talking to a best friend. Ultimately he knew what he was asking for wouldn't come easy once he stepped back those church doors into the world with all his habits he had formed he'd need at least 21 days to switch them up if not break them.

At that moment the sunlight poured through the large stain glass window illuminating him in a golden glow. He didn't immediately feel different as he rose to his feet. Yet he understood if he stayed true winning each day he would, as he was living the life of a born sinner.
