It's been two years since Leo Barnes
(Frank Grillo) stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge
Night. Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth
Mitchell), his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the
annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent. But when a betrayal forces
them onto the streets of D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they
must stay alive until dawn...or both be sacrificed for their sins against the
state. (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database )
Having seen the previous installments of the PURGE series it
only made sense to check out PURGE: ELECTION YEAR. Upon watching and
understanding the universe that the purge inhabits I was taken back by the many
issues in the film that reflect issues we have in real day to day life. I’m not
making the comparison to say the idea that the purge should be a real thing,
but more or less I’m just showing the parallels I found interesting. As for the
overall story I felt it was plausible based on the purge universe and truly
chilling. I did like seeing Frank Grillo reprising his role of Leo Barnes from
a previous PURGE film. Outside of that I wasn’t highly impressed, but I figured
I’d be more entertained. So for PURGE: ELECTION YEAR I give it a 2.75 of 5.
