NETFLIX & CHILL #7

Based on the comic book series "The Brass Teapot" about mid-twenty year old couple who, in these difficult economic times, finds a mysterious, magical brass teapot which makes them money but at a surprising price. After realizing the teapots powers, John and Alice must decide how far they will go to fulfill, their dream. Written by Anonymous  (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

Realizing this film was based on a comic book series told me a lot about this film directed by Ramaa Mosley written by Tim Macy produced by Darren Goldberg, Ramaa Mosely, Kirk Ross & James Graves. I thought at first this film came off kinda quiky, off beat cool, dorky nerd gets hot girl, the struggle is real kind of story, BUT isn't that what makes for great comic storylines. I do feel the concept is compelling and how the events play out you question what could possibly happen next keeping you engaged in the film. So I gave this film 3 stars certifying it as a great HAPPY THANKSGIVING weekend Netflix & Chill   ...GO!!!

NETFLIX & CHILL #6

Peter Devereaux is a former CIA agent who is asked by the man he worked for to extract a woman who is in Russia and is presently close to a man running for President, who is believed to have committed crimes during the Chechen war. She can give them the name of someone who can prove it. His friend says that she will only come to him. So he goes and she gets the info and tries to get out but the man finds out and tries to stop her. Written by rcs0411@yahoo.com (courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

I like the young versus old, master and apprentice motif to the November Man written Directed by Roger Donaldson written by Michael Finch & Karl Gajdusek produced by Sriram Das. The action, like cat and mouse that was woven into the story I felt was nicely done. I feel the characters were compelling, but I didn’t find resonance with the actors that played them. I mean Pierce Brosnan going against a no name actor come, but make him someone with weight, now you have a film I want to watch and will remember. Furthermore, I didn’t gain a true liking for Brosnan’s character as I felt I should, probably because I still saw him as James Bond. Overall I felt November man was entertaining, but not something memorable. Still the same it is NETFLIX & CHILL approved   ...GO!!!

NETFLIX & CHILL #5

Apprehended by the Mexican authorities, Driver is sent to a hardcore prison where he enters the strange and dangerous world of 'El Pueblito'. Not an easy place for an outsider, unless it's with the help of someone who knows the ropes - a 10-year-old kid. Written by Production (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

To be honest I like the premise to this story of GET THE GRINGO Directed by Adrian Grunberg, written by Mel Gibson, Stacy Perskie, and Adrian Grunberg, produced by Bruce Davey, Mel Gibson, and Stacy Perskie and the audacious adventure it sent our main character on into this corrupt Mexican prison showing both his two sides “get the money at all cost” as well as his “save the mother and child”. That said there was just something off be it the continual character voiceover, or even the performance of Mel Gibson. In just a single viewing it is hard to say exactly what it was, but I felt GET THE GRINGO could have been much more entertaining, compelling, and tension filled making it an overall much better film. So for GET THE GRINGO I give it 3 stars for it’s entertainment quality, which still gives it a certification as a good choice for any NETFLIX and CHILL   ...GO!!!

NETFLIX & CHILL #4

Okwe is an illegal Nigerian immigrant leading a hard life and struggling to survive in London's underground. He works as a hotel receptionist in the nighttime and as he has a doctor degree he practices some medicine, during the day, in a very odd way. Besides that he must constantly escape from Immigration officers. One day Okwe discovers by chance an illegal scheme of surgeries is being lead by Juan, his boss in the hotel. Juan quickly comes up with a tempting proposal: if Okwe accepts to perform the illegal surgeries he makes a lot of money and gets legalized situation in the U.K. Can Okwe keep his moral values intact? Written by Weslley Gonçalves (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

I think many of us watch films as much for the story that is told as for the places these stories can take us. DIRTY PRETTY THINGS Directed by Stephen Frears, written by Steven Knight, and produced by Robert Jones & Tracey Seaward takes us to a place not many can understand unless you are an immigrant or know someone who is. That alone made me intrigued by this film. The tension, exotic surroundings our main character was in utterly fascinating as well as the slow and methodical unraveling of this complex love story made it an enjoyable film to watch. Furthermore, the main characters drive to do good while having a shadowed past aided in developing the film tension taking it to another level. I truly enjoyed this film and give it 4 stars, which certifies DIRTY PRETTY THINGS as a clear choice for a NETFLIX and CHILL kind of night.
