THURSDAY NIGHT MARKET: STREET STYLE EXPERIMENT #3 RECAP

For our third installment of Chico Street Style at the Thursday Night Market we have two lovely native Chicoians Crystal and Roxy (I hope I spelled your names right ladies).

I spotted these ladies earlier in the evening, but as the night moved along there they were again and I couldn't miss my 2nd chance for an interview so I moved quickly asking if I could speak with them for a minute.

Both women work in the Health Care field and look absolutely amazing in colorful sarongs, with one of the sarongs being purchased in Mexico the other here in Chico. And check out their purse game one for looking cute the other is practical for carrying things purchased at the market is always a good look.

Crystal and Roxy are fans of the earth friendly laid back vibe Chico has as dressing all in name brands is not in their sense of style. I really loved both looks as they stood out in a crowd and sparkled up close with the great pairing of sandals, earrings, and bracelets.

And if you haven't heard check out Able Abe Clothing here in Chico at KONJO 112 west 2nd street next to Naked Lounge.

Until next post and next Thursday... Enjoy!

FILM REVIEW: YOUR FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS

So with a busy weekend of editing and making sure everything was looking good I am proud to say Able Abe Clothing’s 1st official look book for Spring / Summer 2011 is complete. We are still waiting to release our poster series, which will be out shortly, but we’d love to hear what you think about the book and more importantly the clothes.

As much as it was a busy weekend I was still able to take in a film. This week’s screening courtesy Netflix’s watch instantly section I screened YOUR FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS.

This film written & directed by Neil LaBute, produced by Steve Golin and Jason Patric (1998) This film is of theater instructor Jerry starts an affair with Mary, and that starts a chain of events that affect their respective partners Terri and Barry and other characters in the film, creating a web of relationships. Written by Anonymous

To me this was a great example of true storytelling / film making in the sense that this was a film that was about the characters. This film did not boast about any non-stop action scenes, or massive explosions. What it did do was turn a light on the drama and quirky dynamics of human relationship. Furthermore this film takes it a step farther and only takes focus on a small group magnifying the hidden dialogue that may occur behind closed doors. Films that tackle these everyday topics and showcase them in an interesting way have always fascinated me. So for YOUR FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS I give it 4 Stars.

FILM REVIEW: BULLY

After a big shoot at the local drive in BIG AL’S lead to a weekend of looking over the shoot to see some of the photos. I can obsess sometimes at this stage, but this time I broke away long enough enjoy to take in a movie. The film I watched was BULLY from the same director of the film KIDS, which in my eyes is a classic even if it was shot in .

Bully directed by Larry Clark, written by Jim Schultze, from the book written by David Mckenna, starring Brad Renfro, Nick Stahl and Bijou Phillips, and produced by Chris Hanley, Don Murphy, and Fernando Sulichin. This is the story of Marty who continually finds himself at the constant abuse of his best friend Bobby, Marty has become fed up with his friend's twisted ways. His girlfriend, a victim of Bobby's often cruel ways, couldn't agree more and they strategize murdering Bobby, with a group of willing and unwilling participants in a small Florida town. In the midst of their plotting, they find themselves contemplating with the possible aftermath of what could happen.Written by MonkeyKingMA

I liked this film because of its pace and its ability to tell you a story without showing you everything, allowing you to decipher on your own. This way of telling the story draws you in and then you find yourself in this “Oh Shit!” moment that leaves you asking what the hell just happened. Furthermore to understand this was based on a true story boggles my mind. Another film with a similar story line is ALFA DOG a great film on its own. So for the film BULLY I give it 4 stars.

THURSDAY NIGHT MARKET: STREET STYLE EXPERIMENT RECAP

Well this was the first search for street style in Chico, as we plan through the rest of the Thursday Night Market scheduled to the last Thursday in September capturing what we see and who we meet.

First up, is the Father and Son duo of Manuel and Gabe. We ran into these cool cats as they were promoting for Lucky Tattoo here in Chico, where Manuel is one of the tattoo artists working there. Both Father and Son are to be featured in an upcoming book on subcultures and both have been rockin' the mohawk switching back and forth from red to pink.

THURSDAY NIGHT MARKET: STREET STYLE EXPERIMENT

Well we did it, yes it all didn't go as expected, but it is a start. If you don't know what the hell I'm talking about you probably feel like a few of the people we approached wanting to compliment them on their personal style. This street style experiment isn't new as many blogs from the Sartorialist on down have taken to the street to find those who have taking fashion and turned it into their art. I don't know if we captured that tonight, but we did meet some interesting people. So stay tuned, as we will be posting the photos and write ups for this first installment to Thursday Night Market Street Style in Saturday's post.

And in other news Able Abe Clothing will be holding and Open Photo Shoot tomorrow July 15th. So come be a part, or just watch it should be a great time.
