MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #156

In an alternate version of Oakland, Cassius Green gets a telemarketing job and finds the commission paid job a dispiriting struggle as a black man selling to predominately white people over the phone. That changes when a veteran advises him to use his "white voice," and the attitude behind it to make himself more appealing to customers. With a bizarrely high-pitched accent, Cassius becomes a success even as his colleagues form a union to improve their miserable jobs. Regardless, Cassius finds himself promoted a "Power Caller" selling the most morally abhorrent but lucrative products and services as his connection to his girlfriend and colleagues fades away. However, Cassius' conscience arises anew as he finds himself in the midst of his boss' bizarre world of condescending bigoted decadence and his sinister plans to create the perfect subservient workforce with Cassius' help. I have to say SORRY TO BOTHER YOU surprised me. I guess I went into this film thinking it was going to be like other satirical films I had seen lately that were heavy on the message and not on the story that would best convey the message. That said SORRY TO BOTHER YOU combined the two seamlessly and the performance of Lakeith Stanfield as Cassius was sensational. I left this film already reciting lines with glee as if I had watched the film several times. I may have to say this film may not be for everyone, but in the end, if you give it a try my hope is you’ll enjoy it as much as I did. So for SORRY TO BOTHER YOU I give it 4 stars.

MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #155

With the emerging demand of hyperfuel and other resources, Han Solo finds himself in the middle of a heist alongside other criminals, where they meet the likes of Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian in an adventurous situation exposing the criminal underworld. (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

In all honest I found SOLO to be a fun movie experience. I know the way they are cranking out Star War films there might just end up being a bad one in the bunch. What I do know it won’t be SOLO.  It may be adventurous and fun revealing things about the Star Wars experience we’ve always wondered, but it doesn’t really move the story big picture so much. It was a nice romp though and a great look at the friendship of two of the most memorable characters. So for SOLO I give it 3.75 stars

MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #154

To pay off his debt as a gambler, a man drags his sister and step-brother into a life of crimeand a violent war between rival gang lords. (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

When you think of ganster films you realize they are not all created equal. In this film RICH & FAMOUS we focus on the Chinese mafia, or better known as the Triad. I have always found these types of films greatly intersting and this was much the same. I am sure seeing Chow Yun Fat  in the list of actors also caught my attention, but the film itself was  entertaining. It had a story unlike what I expected, but some of the acting performances made it fall a bit off point. There is a part two entitled TRAGIC HERO, which I am hoping I can find a copy and continue the saga. So for RICH & FAMOUS I give it 3.5  stars.

MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #153

A tragedy that tells the story of murder, sex and redemption against the backdrop of a dead-end town. (Courtesy of Internet Movie Database)

I don’t remember when I was turned onto watching the film RAIN, but upon watching the credits I saw, it was executive produced by Martin Scorsese one of my favorite directors. As I watched this gritty tense small town story I could’nt not be reminded of the small town I once lived in. The need for something more or even something new was prevalent in those times and were strong aspects of this film. Also the past and its hidden tales that came out as they did in this film. I really liked the grittiness the film had and the twisted story it portrayed. I wished I’d had time to have given this film a second viewing, but for RAIN I give it a 3.75 stars of 5.
