MOD MAN #12 Origins

Coming off a fantastic first year garnering Malcolm rookie of the year honors and a trip to the All – Star game Malcolm took the off-season seriously and continued to work on his game. At around he same point Candace did come and stay with him, as he had once asked, enjoying life in L.A. and the lifestyle that Malcolm could afford. It was a great time in both of their lives.

Soon as the seasons changed and the verge of spring training came about Candace herself had to venture back to Texas and finish her final semester before taking off to go abroad. The anticipation for the future in each of their lives was bittersweet as this would mean they probably wouldn’t see each other for sometime. Upon Candace heading back to Texas Malcolm was deep into spring training working hard for the new season wholly to improve upon the performance from a year ago. Finding him on the cover of magazines and cereal boxes and doing numerous interviews it was only a matter of time that Malcolm stardom would take him to super star status if his tremendous play continued.

Malcolm and Candace continued to keep in touch as they had in his first year growing a deeper connection. From the start of the season Malcolm’s team played well so coming up on that years All Star game Malcolm was leading in voting among all players in the league an impressive feat coming off rookie of the year. So as games began to wind up before All Star break Malcolm’s team was in a meaningful game to move into first place in their division.

Malcolm was on fire in this game in route to hit for another cycle having done that a few times already that season. With the game on the line and Malcolm at bat he hit an opposite field triple which brought in the tying and go ahead runs. The home crowd was ecstatic feeling as they were destined for a win and first place. When the inning finally ended and Malcolm’s team was to take the field the crowed roared knowing they were three outs from a win and sole ownership of first place.

The Achilles heel of the team was once again their pitching staff, it was better than last year, but it was never a sure thing. So as the opposing team got a man on base bringing the tying run to the plate tensions grew. Then getting into a full count the pitcher found himself in a bind. Not wanting to bring the go ahead run to the plate the pitcher served up a high and inside fastball, which the batter got a good amount of bat on sending it to straight away centerfield. Malcolm headed back to the wall full throttle, as the hit was carrying looking like it may leave the field. Malcolm reached the warning track and leaped into the wall catching the ball preventing a homerun. The runner looked to tag up and head to third base. Malcolm reared up after bouncing off the wall and fired a strike to his third basemen who tagged out the runner ending the game.

The crowd and team was uproarious, yet against all the joyous cheers Malcolm was grimacing in pain as with the throw he heard a pop in his throwing arm shoulder which lead to a shooting pain down his arm. He fell to his knees in the centerfield grass as the joyous crowd upon seeing their prized player had fallen went from cheers to defining silence wondering what had happened to their budding superstar.
