MY NETFLIX MOVIE REVIEWS #171

An exhilarating mix of dark comedy, white-knuckle action, and dramatic intrigue, Gringo joyrides into Mexico, where mild-mannered businessman Harold Soyinka (David Oyelowo) finds himself at the mercy of his back-stabbing business colleagues back home, local drug lords and a morally conflicted black-ops mercenary. Crossing the line from law-abiding citizen to wanted criminal, Harold battles to survive his increasingly dangerous situation in ways that raise the question: Is he out of his depth - or two steps ahead? Having seen the trailer with a group of other film being introduced to Netflix GRINGO was a standout. My attraction was the interesting storyline centering on Harold Soyinka, a man from Nigeria played by David Oyelowo. Upon watching I was struck by the structure in which this dark comedy was told slowly revealing elements keeping us in the dark as much as the main character Harold. I also thought the casting was on point and got a kick seeing Charlize Theron play a straight shooting ball busting hyper-sexed vixen. So for GRINGO, I give it a 4 of 5 stars.
